You’ve made an appointment at your local friendly studio, and are excited about your upcoming body modification. However, maybe you’re a little nervous, or you’re not sure how to make sure everything goes ahead as planned. Do not fear, as long as you follow the below advice you will be sure to have an awesome new tattoo or piercing to show your mates.
- EAT SOMETHING.
Don’t stuff yourself silly, but always make sure you have had a good breakfast before you come in. Piercings and Tattoos cause your body to create adrenaline, and adrenaline feeds off your blood sugar. If you have low blood sugar then you are asking for trouble. Making sure you eat beforehand will ensure your body can cope with the stress of your piercing or tattoo a lot better. If you are in for a long session of tattooing, then feel free to bring snacks/fluids as this will help you to sit for the duration of the tattoo.
- NO DRINKING THE NIGHT BEFORE.
Okay, you can have a couple of beers or a glass of wine, but please please please (please?) don’t come in after a bender / heavy night on the town. You’re going to feel like crap, and you’re going to bleed a lot more because alcohol thins your blood. It also makes fainting / sickness a lot more likely and frankly we can do without the trouble. If your reputable artist or piercer thinks you’re worse for wear, they will refuse to tattoo or pierce you that day and you will have to re-book.
- ASK QUESTIONS.
No reputable piercer or artist will get annoyed with you for asking questions. You deserve to be fully informed of the process and if you have any questions at all, do not worry about asking them. If your piercer or artist is unwilling to answer these questions then I would consider that a red flag.
- IF YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL CONDITIONS OR ALLERGIES, THEN INFORM YOUR ARTIST OR PIERCER BEFORE YOU GET IN THE CHAIR.
This is a biggie. We can only make sure you are safe and sound if we have all the information. Do not wait until the needle has made contact with your skin to inform us that you have a blood disorder, or any other problem. Just because your consent form doesn’t have the specific problem listed does not mean we don’t need to know about it.
- AND, MOST OF ALL, RELAX!
Piercings and tattoos are never as bad as you think they are going to be. Otherwise millions of people wouldn’t have them. Assuming you’ve followed the above advice, it’s going to be fine. We are great people after all, so you’ll most likely have a laugh and leave super chuffed with your new body mod.
